This month, the Beech Class were learning about the 'gl' blend and had lots of fun exploring all the words that contain this interesting sound. As part of our learning, we decided to write a story using all the 'gl' words we had discovered. The children came up with all the sentences to create our first draft. Then we spent lots of time adding detail to each sentence, editing them to eventually get our final draft. We double checked that we had a clear beginning, middle and end and finally, we had a very entertaining story that the children were very proud of! Have a read of the story below and see the wonderful picture to go with it by our talented illustrator Matylda! The Story of 'Gl'
Once upon a time, there was a man called Calvin and he was wearing his favourite blue and gold gloves. He found a glowing banana cat in the spooky rainforest at 3am on a cold, very dark March night. Suddenly, the banana cat started gliding away on his glider to look for and fetch more bananas! But Calvin thought of a super good idea. He built a yellow plane using yellow and gold super glitter and sticky superglue to attach the cardboard wings! The banana cat thought it was a banana and got stuck to the nose of the plane for a week! Calvin was so glad that he caught the banana cat, he put it in a banana cage and he got a glass of gloopy banana juice to celebrate. The End… for meow…

For October, our theme is 'Our Natural Environment' and we have been very busy learning about autumn through investigations and story telling! As part of this learning, we began our play based learning programme for October this week with the children getting involved in things like spelling tree activities, nature play, role play and much much more!
This kind of learning is excellent for the children's social development as well as helping them to understand the content of our lessons. For a closer look at the children's fun and games through play based learning, check out some of these pictures below! On Friday September 29th, 1st Class and Maple Class travelled together to The Ark Theatre in Temple Bar for a new show called 'ROTHAR', as part of Dublin Theatre Festival 2023.
We excitedly got the bus from school in the morning and had a wonderful journey into town spotting lots of construction, nature and amazing buildings along the way. We were given a super welcome by The Ark Theatre and everybody enjoyed the experience, especially those who had never been to a theatre before! The show was fantastic and we all had an amazing time. Check out some pictures below or our first field trip of the year! |
